  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Stir in chopped nuts if using.
  7. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle shredded coconut on top if desired.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  10. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar, cut into squares, and serve.
