  • 1 bottle red wine Merlot Shiraz, or Rioja
  • 1/4 cup brandy Optional for depth
  • 2 tbsp sugar or honey To taste
  • 1 cup blackberries Fresh or frozen
  • 1 orange Sliced
  • 1 lemon Sliced
  • 1 cup soda water or Sprite For fizz
  • 1/4 cup orange juice Optional
  • a few leaves fresh mint For garnish optional
  • ice cubes As needed

Method
 

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, brandy, sugar (or honey), and orange juice. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add blackberries, orange slices, and lemon slices to the mixture.
  3. Chill the sangria in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to blend.
  4. Just before serving, add soda water (or Sprite) and stir gently.
  5. Serve over ice and garnish with fresh mint and a few blackberries if desired.
