- Prepare base: In a medium saucepan, combine milk, cream, and sugar. Heat gently until sugar dissolves. If using egg yolks, temper them with warm milk mixture and return to saucepan; cook until slightly thickened.
- Cool mixture: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract or chosen flavorings. Chill completely in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Freeze in Ninja Creami pint: Pour chilled base into Ninja Creami pint container and freeze for 24 hours (or until completely frozen).
- Process: Insert frozen pint into Ninja Creami and select “Gelato” function.
- Add mix-ins: After first spin, create a well in the gelato and add chocolate chips, nuts, or fruit chunks; run “Mix-In” function.
- Serve: Scoop immediately or store in freezer until ready to enjoy.
